Peru has the traditional four seasons throughout the year but has regions with very different climatic characteristics. Peru has been affected by climatic phenomena such as the Global El Niño or the change in the Humboldt Current during the last few years, so the climate in some regions has changed compared to past decades.

Our team of specialists has elaborated a summary of the months in which we recommend traveling to Peru according to the region or city you wish to visit, as well as the festivities you can find in your destination.

JANUARY: This month is ideal for visiting coastal cities such as Lima, Piura, and Trujillo. During January, the coast is in the summer season with high temperatures and a large number of crowds on the beaches, but it is also the month where there are more festivities, such as the anniversary of Lima or concerts on the beaches in the north of the country.

FEBRUARY: Carnivals are celebrated this month in most of the Peruvian territory, especially in Cajamarca and Ayacucho, the provinces with the most visitors in February. We recommend you visit these two beautiful destinations, making reservations well in advance since both Cajamarca and Ayacucho are usually full during this month.

MARCH: In March, the Vendimia International Festival takes place in the province of Ica. This festival honors and celebrates the grape harvest of the region by the ancestors of the area since colonial times. This month no longer has a summer climate, but temperatures are still ideal for visiting the main coastal destinations and avoiding the crowds of the previous months.

APRIL: Holy Week is usually celebrated in Peru in April (depending on the liturgical calendar to define the week). The best destination to experience the Holy Week festivities is in Ayacucho, considered the city of churches due to the large number of churches and manifestations of popular art that it has. Holy Week is also celebrated in Lima to a lesser extent, following the traditions of this festivity.

JUNE: This month is ideal for visiting the city of Cusco because it is celebrating its anniversary. Throughout the month, you will witness festivities in every district and neighborhood of Cusco, with the main days being the celebrations of Corpus Christi and Inti Raymi. In June, the festival of San Juan in the Amazonian regions of Peru also takes place, with outdoor concerts and gastronomic fairs.

JULY: It is also ideal for visiting the capital of the Incas, Cusco. The festivity of the Virgen del Carmen takes place in July in the province of Paucartambo, as well as the anniversary of Quillabamba, both belonging to the department of Cusco. July is considered the most festive month at a national level since on the 28th and 29th of that month, the independence festivities of Peru are celebrated.

AUGUST: In August, we celebrate the day of the Pachamama, or Mother Earth in most departments (especially in the Highlands and Amazon). It is also a great time to visit the Department of Arequipa, which is celebrating its founding anniversary with parades, gastronomic fairs, and concerts throughout the city.

SEPTEMBER: This month is perfect for visiting destinations usually crowded in high season. September is a neutral month throughout the Peruvian territory since it does not have many festivities to celebrate, and Peru is going through a process of seasonal change in most of its regions.

OCTOBER: The festivity of the Señor de los Milagros takes place throughout the month in the city of Lima. The traditional procession of the image of Señor de los Milagros goes all over the Historical Center visiting the most emblematic places of the city where gastronomic and artistic festivals are held by the most faithful followers.

NOVEMBER: In November, we recommend visiting the Amazon region or Jungle eyebrow because the wet season has not yet started 100%, and rainfall is low compared to December and January. It is also a great time to visit the northern beaches before the high season starts and avoid the crowds.

DECEMBER: In December, you can visit Puno and Tumbes as both departments celebrate the festivity of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception with gastronomic fairs and parades. This month, there are no recommended destinations in particular but the coastal regions in which the summer season has already begun.
