Bolivia has a lot to offer tourists because it has a diverse culture, a lot of different landscapes, a long history, and good food. The salt flats at Uyuni are a very popular place to visit.
Leaving Uyuni to go to the Train Cemetery
Around 10:30 a.m., they'll come to your Uyuni hotel to pick you up. Our first stop will be at the Cemetery of Trains, where old locomotives have been left to rust, making for a very strange landscape.
The Salt Museum and Colchani
Then we'll go to the village of Colchani. There, you'll get to see the salt museum and the salt refinery, where you can learn about how salt is extracted and refined, as well as the local shops that sell handicrafts.
The Uyuni Salt Flat is reached.
The group will then go into the salt desert at noon and see the salt piles, the "ojos del salar" (small holes where you can see underground water), and the fascinating Playa Blanca museum, which was built entirely out of salt blocks from the Uyuni Salt Flats. The next stop will be Incahuasi Island, which has a unique environment full of giant cacti and is one of the best places to see the beautiful landscape because of its height. Make sure to take pictures of the Uyuni Salt flats from different angles. Later, we'll take a short walk to lunch in the White Plains, and then we'll keep going on our exciting journey.
Altiplanic Lagoons
We'll start the day with an early breakfast and then head toward the famous Laguna Colorada, which is one of the biggest and most beautiful lagoons in the salt flats. First, we'll go through the Chiguana salt flats, and then we'll stop at the Ollague volcano lookout to see more of the landscape. After that, we'll go to the Caapa, Hedionda, Hona, and Ramadita lagoons, which are known as the "colored" or "altiplanic" lagoons.
Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve entrance
We will go through the Siloli Desert to get to Eduardo Avaroa National Park. The Siloli Desert is more than 5000 meters above sea level and has amazing volcanic landscapes with different colors and its famous stone tree. We will stop to eat along the way.
Laguna Colorada
We will finally get to the Laguna Colorada, where three different kinds of flamingos live. There, we'll have some free time and can walk around the lagoon for 20 minutes to see all the different animals that live there.
At the end of the day, we'll get to our refuge near the lagoon, where we'll have more time to walk around until it gets dark. After dinner, we'll sleep in dorms with six beds or in private rooms (available as an extra of the tour). Please keep in mind that the second day's lodging is very simple.
Geysers field "Sol de Mañana"
We will get up very early to start the trip to the "Sol de la Maana" geyser field, where activity is highest in the morning and when you can see the many active geysers, fumaroles, and even a small crater with lava.
Termas de Polques: hot springs
The trip goes on to the hot springs, where we can swim in a pool of natural thermal water. The only way to see the Polques hot springs is on a tour of the Uyuni Salt flats.
Lagoons in green and white
We'll go to the Green and White Lagoons in the Salvador Dal desert after the swim. With the volcano Licancabur in the background and beautiful views, the area is a great place to go exploring.
The Uyuni Salt Flats tour is over.
