Next to the Government Palace is the Basilica Cathedral at Plaza de Armas—the heart of Lima’s historical center—where architectural marvels intertwine beautifully with religious devotion. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a guided city tour of Cusco and the surrounding archaeological sites, such as Qorikancha temple – most known as the Temple of the Sun and Sacsayhuaman Fortress – a place that served for the Inti Raymi to take place. You will also visit Tambomachay which is located in the upper part of the beautiful city of Cusco.

Day 5: Full-day tour to the sacred valley and overnight in aguas calientes

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Cusco, a Gotolatam representative will pick you up to start your Sacred Valley tour. The first stop will be the City of Pisac, a small town with exquisite architecture that is the perfect place to buy authentic Andean souvenirs, known as artesanias. As you browse through the selection of traditional clothing and handicrafts, you'll easily understand why the Pisac market has a reputation of its own. In the afternoon, you will visit Ollantaytambo, which is an Inca site that began as a palace or fortress but was eventually used as the last Inca stronghold against the invading Spanish conquistadors. After an exciting day of archaeological exploration, you will board the train to Machu Picchu town – known as Aguas Calientes – at the Ollantaytambo train station. Upon your arrival in Aguas Calientes, a representative of Gotolatam will be waiting for you at the Aguas Calientes train station to take you to your hotel.

Day 6: Visit to machu picchu and return to cusco

¡The main day of your trip! Be ready to visit the Citadel of Machu Picchu. Our representative will pick you up from your hotel to escort you to the Aguas Calientes Bus Station for a 30-minute bus ride to the Citadel of Machu Picchu, where you are going to have a private guided tour of the citadel. Late in the afternoon, you will board the train from Aguas Calientes Train Station to Ollantaytambo Train Station, where a vehicle will be ready to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

On this day, you will enjoy a full-day tour to The Rainbow Mountain. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco very early in the morning and start driving through the South Valley to the trailhead at Cusipata. After a delicious breakfast, we will begin our walk, following a beautiful path that finishes with an amazing view of Vinicunca Mountain, popularly known as Rainbow Mountain. At the top of Rainbow Mountain, you can have a panoramic view of Ausangate Mountain. When we come back to the base, we will travel to Cusipata to have lunch, and then you will return to the city of Cusco.

Day 8: Flight from cusco to puerto maldonado and amazon program day 1

Our Gotolatam staff will visit you at your hotel in Cusco and transfer you to the airport. You will board a flight to Puerto Maldonado, where we will be waiting for you to start your Amazon program.

Begin your Amazon adventure with a 25-minute boat ride, navigating the clay-colored Madre de Dios River to reach the lodge. Settle into your stylish stilted wooden cabaña or room on a private eco-reserve and then explore the rainforest on foot, starting from the Eco Center.

At dusk, witness the enchanting transformation of the rainforest from a diurnal to a nocturnal environment on a guided Twilight River boat ride as animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the shadows of the night. See if you can spot caimans lurking on the riverbanks and stars of the southern hemisphere.

In the evening, enjoy dinner, drawing on local Amazon ingredients for inspiration. Retreat to your cabaña or room to listen to the curious calls and croaks of the rainforest at night.

Day 9: Amazon program day 2

Wake-up call with a buffet breakfast. Visit Lake Sandoval, a glassy ox-bow lake located inside the protected Tambopata National Reserve, reached via a sun-dappled rainforest trail. Board a dug-out wooden canoe to quietly paddle through a stream and glide onto Lake Sandoval, surrounded by picture-perfect palms. This lake is home to many species of birds, including the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles, and black caimans, amongst others. After lunch, we recommend climbing the exhilarating Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. The Canopy Walkway is a sophisticated and safe 344-meter network of seven ecologically constructed hanging suspension bridges strung between eight treetop observation platforms above the forest. This is an unforgettable opportunity to observe the rainforest from the rooftop and gain a sense of its size. Ascend the first vertiginous tower 38 meters above ground, keeping an eye out for bright toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and the three-toed sloth. It’s possible to extend your elevated stay with sunset drinks from atop a tower or spend a once-in-a-lifetime night in a specially-designed treehouse cabin with surprising comforts (additional cost applies). Back at the lodge, you can adventure out on the Hidden Forest excursion. Armed with flashlights, as your senses heighten to the movements and sounds in the undergrowth of the forest, keep an eye out for species that only emerge during the night.

Day 10: Amazon program day 3 and flight from puerto maldonado to lima

Enjoy your last morning waking to the sounds of the rainforest as parakeets chatter away in the trees and monkeys swing through the treetops. Breakfast is served in Casa Grande, and, depending on the time of your departure flight, lunch can also be arranged (additional cost applies). Embark on your ready-waiting motorized wooden boat for the 25-minute return trip along the Madre de Dios River until you arrive at the airport, where you will board your flight to Lima. Upon your arrival, we will take you to your selected hotel.

Day 11: Departure from lima

We will escort you to the Jorge Chavez International Airport to take your flight back home.
