Best time to visit

The best time to visit Iguazú Falls is from March to May and August to October, when the weather is mild, and water levels are ideal for viewing the falls. Summer months (December to February) bring high temperatures and humidity, while the rainy season ensures stronger flows but can limit access to certain trails.

Top tours

Top tours at Iguazú Falls include guided walks along the Argentine and Brazilian sides, each offering unique perspectives. The Devil’s Throat walkway is the most dramatic viewpoint. Boat rides beneath the falls provide thrilling experiences, while helicopter tours on the Brazilian side offer breathtaking aerial views.

Things to do

Visitors can explore walking trails, ride the ecological train on the Argentine side, or enjoy wildlife spotting in Iguazú National Park, home to toucans, monkeys, and butterflies. Photography, birdwatching, and boat excursions are popular activities. The surrounding rainforest also offers eco-adventures and cultural encounters with local communities.

Weather

Iguazú has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers averaging 30°C and mild winters around 15–20°C. Rain can occur year-round but is heaviest between December and March. Visitors should be prepared for humidity and occasional downpours when exploring the trails.

Airports

The main airport on the Argentine side is Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport, located 25 minutes from the falls. On the Brazilian side, Foz do Iguaçu International Airport provides easy access to the park. Both airports are connected by taxis, buses, and tours.

Hotels

Iguazú offers accommodations ranging from luxury lodges within the national park to mid-range hotels and budget hostels in Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu. Staying inside the park provides early access to trails, while nearby towns offer more variety and nightlife.

Restaurants

Puerto Iguazú features a variety of dining options, from traditional Argentine parrillas to international restaurants. Fresh river fish like surubí and pacú are local specialties. The Brazilian side also offers excellent dining, with churrascarias being a highlight.

Best way of payment

Both Argentine pesos and Brazilian reais are used depending on the side of the falls visited. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but carrying some local currency is recommended for small expenses. ATMs are available in both Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu.

Festivities

Iguazú hosts regional festivals that celebrate local culture and traditions, including food fairs and folkloric events. National holidays in both Argentina and Brazil also bring parades and music. Indigenous communities sometimes share their traditions through cultural presentations.

Other useful information

Iguazú Falls, one of the world’s largest and most spectacular waterfalls, straddles the border between Argentina and Brazil. With over 250 cascades surrounded by lush rainforest, the falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a natural wonder that draws travelers from around the globe.

Best places to visit

Main highlights include the Devil’s Throat viewpoint, the Upper and Lower Circuits on the Argentine side, and panoramic views from the Brazilian side. Boat rides beneath the falls and wildlife-rich trails make Iguazú a destination of natural beauty and adventure.
